The pulse laser pods are very handy in this mission, if you have an aircraft that can load them. In reality, you can't really see the HUD symbology unless your eyes are fairly close to where the pilot's head is. The HUD functions essentially like a holographic window, where the symbology is projected at infinity, so that if your head moves around the symbols still overlay where the stuff is in reality. It's not literally a hologram, but the optics of the projector collimate the light so it works in a similar fashion.
