You know, I didn't expect Ajax to be right in the end. At first glance, Deutschland and the Commander don't seem to get along that well so I really didn't think they were actually doing it.

I don't know, the establishing strip at the beginning seems to have Deutschee disposing of the whole "lowly animal" thing when they're alone and Commander doesn't seem overly concerned about babying her ego which tends to be the case in the actual canon. Also the casual requests to retrieve beer for both.

It gives me a feel of having worked together for a long time and comfort with each other's presence and quirks. Honestly having a box of condoms in the desk drawer wouldn't feel out of place to me for how I'm reading into it.
