What argument? Social Media wasn't around back then, not that that's a bad thing. If you mean who was it between the love triangle then, yeah I have my reservations, but I always went with Cloud and Aerith, it made for a better love story to me, and the idea of Tifa or Cloud waiting for one another after all that time makes no sense to me, all the boys in town were jocking for Tifa but it was always and only Cloud? Tifa said all the boys around Cloud's age were leaving town to find work, but she only cared about the one who said he'd join soldier and become a hero?
I personally ship Tifa x Barret, Barret was single all that time, and Tifa just happens to join up with Avalanche but not once did Barret think about plowing that? BS lol. Sure she could have rejected him but why would she? She loves Marlene and gets to play step-mom to her kind of, Barret's relative age to her seems less important given the state of their community and the world in general.
It would be really nice to see Tifa's journey to Midgar after the events of Nibelheim.

It was literally always Aerith. Her name being Aeris in FF7 and Tactics was essentially a "mistranslation". Since this was the period where western publishers had little to no contact with the original devs when it came to translations, they just had to figure everything out themselves and guess in some places. They went with Aeris for the first two games she appeared in, but she has officially been Aerith, even in Japanese materials, for every single appearance after those first two. The devs themselves even stated her name is intended to be Aerith, as a near anagram of Earth.
I've even seen some claims that her name was even Aerith in the game's code, it's just that the only place you see her default name is when you're given the option to name her, which of course was written as Aeris by the translators. This one I'm not sure about, though.
There was practically no basis for an argument, the actual truth was settled years ago. It's just some hardass fanboys who refuse to just accept that they're wrong, even when the actual devs say so.
Man people still get emotional over this thing. The other guy even brought up the age old “which girl” argument too. I literally saw one thread on that between about 5 people go on and off for like 5-6 whole years.
Some things never change. It gives me a weird heartwarming feeling for some reason. XD
