While this is absurd, these posts had reminded me about parthenogenesis (wikipedia link) and how some of those occur from the ovum fusing with a polar body resulting in what is essentially self-fertilization.

I think the bigger question is, why is half of this tag Fate and/or Signum? They're not all from the same artist, and while I know that Fate and Signum is a ship (albeit not so much as Fate and Nanoha), it seems strange to me that so many are either one or both of them. Apparently the oldest post for the tag on this site is of them, so...

Because IIRC, it's one specific person commissioning these pieces.
