This couple is virtually non-existent, huh?

Marianne is... difficult to deal with. At first i was very compassionate towards her, i felt that i needed to help as much as i could but the thing is... she doesn't really grow as character unless you advance the story all the way to section two (basically hours of play) or raise her bond to nearly A, she changes a bit when reaching bond level B but otherwise is constantly pessimistic and self-loathing and at some point it sort of got on my nerves because i was really enjoying her character progression. It feels like every step she takes forward theres two steps backwards, it reaches the point that other characters even comment on her attitude and no one tears more aggressively (in a good way) than Lysithea and i would go on a limb and say her back story is more dark and sad than Marianne. So yeah, coffee too dark needs more sugar.

Interesting that you should bring up those two together, cuz if anything I think Lyssie should've got Marianne's personality. Lysithea is, while still a child, subjected to horrific experiments that shorten her lifespan, her siblings are all murdered by those same experiments and meanwhile her parents are completely powerless to help her. Marianne, by comparison, has a Crest with a bad reputation and is orphaned at 14, but gets taken in by an adoptive father who by all accounts seems to be very caring and supportive. If I had to choose between them for who's more likely to get PTSD, I'd absolutely choose Lysithea.

That being said, Marianne's behaviour and development is consistent with someone suffering from a severe guilt complex, as she believes that it was her Crest that caused her parents' death. I can tell you from my own experience that you don't overcome such feelings of shame and self-hate just because someone's nice to you - it can take YEARS to work through those issues, so it's entirely appropriate to me that she doesn't really come to terms with herself until after the timeskip. I guess how much you get out of her depends on how much you relate to feelings like that.
