Huh, the one for my DS looks much smaller than those.

They aren't that big, but they're still inconveniently square-ish.

The boxes are what transforms the power to the V9 or whatever the device uses and keeps it from getting fried by the electricity. However it is smarter to put the box thing on the middle of the cord rather than by the power plug. >_>
