Aura Battler Dunbine, doing isekai before isekai was cool. Pretty good series too, though some parts of the ending kinda felt like a cheap shot.
In a way, the initial premise is quite similar to Knights & Magic, with a Japanese guy being isekai'd to a fantasy European world filled with mechas (yes, in an 80's-era anime). Though with Tomino at the helm, things soon take a turn for the dark and gritty.
