    It seems that today, November 8th, is "X-Ray Day".
    The reason why barium is made to taste bad is because when it tastes good, stomach acid gets released and washes it (the barium) away from the stomach's mucous membrane.

    Yeah, about that. Isn't it a terrible idea to leave the stomach unprotected from the stomach acid? If I remember right, ulcers are caused by the acid attacking the stomach, so why would acid wash away the membrane?

    The translation's a bit off. "The reason why barium is made to taste bad is because when it tastes good, stomach acid gets released and washes it (the barium) away from the stomach's mucous membrane."
