A very beautiful picture but, unfortunately, it is a lie. A sweet, touching, sentimental, and very romantic lie, yes. But a lie it remains, nonetheless. She wasn't sorry for what she did. She felt no sorrow, no pain. Only self-righteous hatred and contempt for the hero whom she so coldly and so callously betrayed. This picture of Six in tearful anguish over Mono's fall into the pit is the product of fanciful, wishful thinking, nothing more.

To be fair, Six was at least hesitant to drop Mono and even caught him when he reached out to her. It was mainly fear after seeing Mono's face that she dropped him as Six somehow recognized Mono as the Thin Man whom just recently captured and tried to kill her. Only thing Six didn't know is that her betrayal is what lead to Mono becoming the Thin Man in the first place, putting them in an endless loop
Thin Man didn't want to kill Six. His feelings for her were too strong for that. He locked her up instead.
If he *really* wanted to kill her, he had ample means and opportunity.
Also don't forget, the happiest time of his life was the time he spent with her. While that adds fuel to the grudge, it is the light in the darkness that consumes him.

Even if she really was hesitant to drop him, there still remains no justification. Let's say for the sake of argument she truly was willing to pull him up until she recognized the Thin Man in the face of her self-sacrificing champion. Even if we accept that, then, at best it only makes our "heroine" a selfish coward and a weakling for dropping Mono into the pit after all he had done to save her.
All she had to do was pull him up and tell her champion what she had learned after they had escaped. --------------- "Mono, Mono! The Thin Man told me he was you from the future and, he was right! I can see him in your face! He really is you!"
"But...but you're my life, you're my empress, how could you think I would ever become that creature who did this to you? And even if you did believe I could do this to you, why did you take the chance by pulling me up?"
"Because I love you, you idiot >_< " -------------- But, no. That would've required too much effort and trust, it would've caused too much inconvenience. Better to just drop him and watch him fall and to hell with his little schoolboy heroics. It's not like she fucking asked that asshole to save her, anyway, right?
Yeah right.
No, there's no justification even if we do accept the "Six was just afwaid for her life-y" argument as valid.
And frankly, that is neither here nor there. Because if you pay close attention to her body language in the game, it's very easy to tell she regrets NONE of the evil she has done. Pay attention to the way she just watches Mono plummet to his end. One would think she was watching a stone fall off a bridge instead of the sweet, compassionate little boy who was willing to tear himself in two than to risk a single scratch be landed upon his queen.

Good doesn't become evil just because someone who has experienced Heaven is suddenly and maliciously thrown into Hell. The taste of Heaven makes the agony and horror of Hell all the more horrific and agonizing upon being cast down, this is true, but that doesn't make Heaven itself demonic and unholy.
In the end, it was the evil of Six which destroyed Mono, not the passionate (albeit misguided) love Mono had for Six. ======= UPDATE :: Very good observation, btw. About Mono's brief adventure as Six's personal bodyguard and protector being the happiest he would ever be. I believe you're right. He really loved being her knight (and deeply loved Six, as well), which only makes the ending all the more tragic, bitter, and despairing to behold.

Perhaps I should have worded that better. He is consumed by his grudge. His grudge is the darkness. The grudge is born out of his feelings of betrayal by one he cared about. His feelings of caring are the light. The light is that which allows him to overcome all obstacles over the course of the game, including his own corrupted, begrudging self. In Mono's story, his love conquered all. He saves Six and he even saves himself...but he couldn't overcome fate.
If it's possible, Six will have to be the one to overcome fate.
