It happens occasionally, sure, but it's incredibly rare. It just seems more common because when it does happen, it's all over the news (because, again, it's so rare).

Because 1.) Makoto's a skeezy bastard who thinks only of his own dick, and 2.) Kotonoha was 'tiring' to deal with and overly-sensitive to everything.

But really, Makoto should've just broken up with her properly instead of cheating.
