    I'm pretty sure shipgirls are kind of ambiguous in this regard. Sometimes they get portrayed more as siblings as "sister ships" as you will, other times they get portrayed more as classmates as they are "ships of the same class", other times they don't display much of a relationship at all (look at the many varied Fubuki class shipgirls across divisions and artists).
