it does still take a little while to understand how to play. The game does a pretty poor job of explaining everything to you.

It explains enough. You'll learn all you need to know to get started, and figure out the rest as you go.

Most games hold your hand and walk you through every ~little~ detail, it's nice to figure out some of the mechanics on your own.
