    Same species actually. Canis Lupus. Domestic dogs are considered a subspecies, Canis Lupus Familiaris.

    You can also still domesticate wolves to some degree. Hell domesticated wolves are at least a little more affectionate than Falconers and their Falcons.

    Taming is a case-by-case effort, and doesn't do anything to suppress an animal's natural instincts. The odds of a tamed animal actually being well-behaved and comfortable with others are very slim.

    Domestication is the adjustment of animals to humans over many generations. Their instincts are molded into a form as we see fitting. In Russia, for example, geneticists are selectively breeding foxes based on their willingness to be close to humans, turning a handful of foxes into friendly, lovable house-pets.
