For me, she was one of the 3 Nijis EN who was worth watching at least (the other 2 are Pomu and Selen). On one side is sad ... for another...

I don't feel like she'll do it, but would she even make it even if she applied right this second? My limited understanding is that the earlier the better and auditions have been open for a month already.

Yeah although I'd somewhat agree with the first half of what you said Raisen, this part bunkhead brings up is a huge stretch tbh, and she's said said not necessarily going immediately back to streaming in any form unlike Zaion/Sayu (who already had a significant and organized community in her PL). Also nobody is really sure what the final teaser is and I have personally downloaded the VOD and analyzed every frame of it to conclude its most likely another VSinger (single mem instead of Gen 3, there are multiple shots of different symbols that could represent a gen of mems with 1 "evil" theme, but the laughing symbol is like IRyS what it only shows one member's motif that I would assumble is likely the final product to show only 1 member is coming)

She would have to work full time as a streamer and music producer (though IRyS ans AzKi ended up being balanced with gaming streams like Pre-2023/Specter Album Suisei instead of solely VSingers).

In other words, Nina has a ZERO chance in hell she's going to HololiveEN and Zaion/Sayu was just a one-off who should not have joined a company bound by Japanese laws in the first place. I'm saying that as an actual fan of her commonly noted annoying voice.
But its understandable that Niji may not last as long though they are in a better state now than years ago.

She is gonna be indie likely, just like a certain hololive who graduated.
