I was surprised Meiling went with a suppressor

"Suppressor", not "silencer", as there's really no such thing as the second. That weapon makes plenty of noise, but not quite enough to injure her hearing with that on there.

Also suppressors change the sound signature so the other side has trouble kn owing just what weapon is being fired, making preparation to defend a bit harder. Also it distorts the perception of the exact position of where the fire is coming from.

Perhaps not in the literal sense, but the first successful device for making firearms quieter was the Maxim Silencer, which is probably where the term came into common usage. I think the reason why we use suppressor more often now is because Hollywood built up silencers to be something that completely silences the weapon(other than the fwip, apparently), and made the term misleading for those unfamiliar.

And yeah, silencers/suppressors are great if hearing loss doesn't appeal to you. Too bad they have the whole bad guy image, making them difficult to get in some states.

Meilings equipment should be kung fu.
