The DLC reveals that Miquella is not so innocent or kindly. He has mind control powers that he's used on a number of people including Mohg, making him kidnap him and become his consort, as part of a scheme to ascend to godhood. He's directly and indirectly responsible for, not all of, but a solid chunk of the bad shit that's happened to the setting.

Oh no, Mogh wanted to be Miquella's consort, to be Lord while Miquella ascended to Godhood.
Miquella was just using him as a key into the Land of Shadow, where the godhood ascension spire stands. Later he realized he'd need Mogh's body, since Radahn resisted becoming Miquella's consort of his own free will, so Miquella schemed to have Malenia kill Radahn then stuff his soul into Mogh's body
