    remember that Cookie exists (to the point of characters having their own tags here) and had its own drama that actually happened IRL and not just over the Internet. I don't think Eastern side is that much better, it's just language barrier preventing most of us from getting deep enough into the rabbit hole.

    Looking at the Twitter comments they are truly into elitism ("real Touhou fans" and such). They go out into rampages every time a new franchise takes relevance over their poor old same Touhou. Making fan arts with brand new franchises or memes is fine, until they try to force everything into Touhou as if Zun were the reason new franchises exist. And I say "poor old same" because it doesn't matter how many times Zun creates new characters or music, they always go back to the same 20 years old games. Even when current games have exactly the same drawing style, music and mechanics from a 20 year old game.

    It's time to let go and move on. It was cool to read about the Scarlet Devil mansion two decades ago, but we now have idol groups, warship girls, horse racing gals, a whole Zoo and hundreds of new gatcha games and anime franchises that give more than Zun could ever done. He's after all only an individual who can't make a hundred person production.

    From what I understand what you mean, that in general Touhou sucks, I already know that the "cookie" thing exists and how cringey it is (it's like a poorly done lobotomy to the "franchise" if you ask me)

    Not Touhou that sucks, just its fanbase, which is typical of any large fandom. It's also not really a very fair judgement, since we're judging based on the fucked up minority. The unpleasant members stand out the most, and there's going to be more of those the larger the sample size, but the majority of most fandoms are actually perfectly fine and normal.

    Their point was that fans aren't better or worse depending on their country of origin. The Japanese fans have just as many controversies and bad apples as the western fans. You just don't hear about them because they happen in Japanese spaces, but if something happens in the English speaking side then of course you'll hear all about it.
