I'm pretty sure the stinger was entirely a self-deprecating joke on Gainax's part, so it can safely be ignored as far as continuity goes. And if they do make a second season, it will be.

Actually, I'm more curious about how she could harm Garter, a -human-, with heavenly weapons. This has proven to be impossible in the past.

To be fair, all that's been proven is that Backlace's bullets can't kill humans. But they still hurt, and I'm failry sure that a sword could still cut things.
