It's not something new really, it's just that it's vastly overshadowed by x kaguya and x Kiene (for the obvious reasons) and x Mystia (courtesy of mitsumoto)
I mentioned the same thing in post #803888. I've come to the conclusion that most Touhou pairing don't make much sense, but since most of Touhou is fandom, there's really no reason to worry about it too much.
And at least this one isn't as creepy as some other more popular pairings out there.

It kinda makes sense. Mokou is a fire user. Wriggle is a firefly.
The main thing with these two is that they're two of the main sources of testosterone in Gensokyo, and they're at opposite ends of the same game to boot. The "badass mentor and disciple" relationship is much more common than the romantic angle, but I'm fine with either.
