In folk tales (and this is definitely is parody to a folk story), the wisest heroine is always old lady. But, it seems what Reimu is still young, but wise. Or may be she returned her youth by defeating shinigami (I'm not sure how it all "you wouldn't die, while you can defeat shinigami"-stuff works).

I prefer the yukkuri stories like this as well, but while I don't like the abuse ones, I do dislike where they have them rude and get away with it.

Actually yeah, if you think about it. She lives alone in a shrine a pretty good distance from anything resembling civilization. If she didn't have incidents to resolve, and if people (read:youkai)weren't always dropping in on her she'd probably never come into contact with anyone.
