it's part of the original design IMO

Most AR-15/M-4 grips are like that to reduce weight since it's plenty strong enough without being solid polymer all the way through.

Newer ones come with or you can add a plate cover so that you can store items in the grip. Such as batteries for your Tac-light or other small useful items.

For some reason, this pistol looks like a SiG or a USP/MK23

It's a Sig 226, not a H&K you can tell by the old style take down lever and the position of the slide release/decocker.

its a P228, but at the angle it looks too long, but based on the mag plate yeah P228
