Context for the inclusion in pools: (Very spoiler-heavy) In the game, the Hero's village is razed to the ground by military forces after he's taken into custody and labeled as the 'Darkspawn'. When you finally get to return to the village and after a flashback sequence, you find it in ruins with no one in sight. When you go to what was once the Hero's home, you have the option to have him sleep in his bed amongst all the rubble. This bed is basically one of the only in-tact relics of his childhood home whilst he has no idea if his mother is dead or not.
