First time I see a torpedo made by ACME.

For Sub Force, the IJN was just the opposition - BuOrd was the enemy.

Why do I say that? Exhibit A: the Mark 14 torpedo.

To be fair, the Mark 14 Torpedo is about as close as one can come to making a toy torpedo that isn't from Fisher-Price.

Depends if it's an early war Mark 14 or a late war Mark 14.

Once they fixed the stupid problems in the Mark 14 is was good torpedo. But it cost a lot of lives and careers to get that torpedo fixed.

It also costed the US the greatest submersible raid ever when a few snuck into a Japanese harbour but none of their torpedoes actually exploded.

I can't seems to recall the name of the actual raid itself,though.

Laffey is portrayed as drunkard because her crew wasknown for their notorious "torpedo juice" adiction, aka a mixture of ethyl alcohol extracted from the Mark 14 torpedo. There were many fans of free booze in the American Pacific Fleet besides Laffey crew, and of course, half-emptied fuel tanks did not have the best effect on the range, combat effectiveness and overall reputation of Mark 14 torpedoes.
