I think in the situation here you can compare Koa to the girl and Patchy to the kitten, somewhat, or maybe the reverse.

I like what Patchy is saying in the last panel reflects what it's happening there. Just replace the ''Lady'' with Koa and ''Kitten'' with Patchy.

up to this point i'd say it's been the other way around. (bit of a stretch, but for some one like me who hasn't read this fairy tale, it seems to make more sense.)
