How is it running out of ideas? I don't remember seeing any Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy developer team reusing names. Now if the same team starts to use the same name for a completely different game and character, then yes they are out of ideas.
Likely not from a similar origin, there was Terra from FF6. But seeing as it was originally Tina till Ted Woolsey switched it, it likely doesn't count.
As for Rikku, Riku is not Rikku. Rikku involves an additional k sound and stems from a different origin. Rikku was taken out of KH1 to avoid name confusion in the first place. Thats why Yuffie's got her spot.
Now once again I'm annoyed with the uneducated RPG player.
The reason why they used these names is because that's what Sora, Riku, and Kairi's names MEAN in Japanese. Sora means Sky, Riku means Earth, and Kairi means Sea.
Ventus, Terra, and Aqua are the Latin of these elements, therefore ARE THEIR NAMES.
