She can fit her legs through it, would be the most logical, and it's not impossible.

I watched it frame by frame and her legs simply phased through the arms like they weren't there. Probably a mistake or laziness on the animators' part.

Not to mention that Mako's chair just slides a whole foot with her barely moving at all.

The animation looks pretty smooth. I'm surprised that they made a mistake like that, considering the level of detail. It's like there's a standard nowadays.

If you absolutely need a logical explanation (anime will drive you to suicide anyway) you could just say she's not sitting in the chair in the first place, but rather squatting and propping her weight on the chair back. I rested on a chair like that once when I suddenly noticed the chair seat was wet (it had just rained)

Fair enough. Especially when considering Master Snipe's and Mettan's comments and the way the chair bounced around alongside my original comment.

Mako was moving out of Ryuko's way. Besides, it's canon that normal physics don't apply to Mako.
