Aw, I'm sure Kumi actually IS super-cute; it's just Morikawa's failings as an artist at drawing pretty faces - something that isn't unique to him.

And Ippo snapping/jumping Kumi, and her not really minding being jumped seem reasonable to me. They've both been hot for each other for years, it's only their personalities (and the author) being what they are that's kept them from hooking up. She doesn't need to worry about getting pregnant, though... the prophylactic referred to as "murder" is about to be applied...
