He's obviously gay. I mean, how could any straight man possibly have prolonged contact with THREE whole prepubescent girls and not be interested in a single one of them.
It's because he's ten. I was still more concerned with games, cartoons, and comics than the girls in my class at that age. Forget how many years have passed IRL or in the show, too. Pokemon works under the same rules as The Simpsons.
"Ash" is one of the default names for the protagonist in the games. By technicality, "Satoshi/Ash" in reference to the protagonist predates the anime.
For that matter, I honestly question comparing a silent protagonist video game character whose ever action the player directly controls to the protagonist of a show with an actual personality.

Not just three girls. Anabel/Lila liked him, too, and Melody from the second movie. Then it was either Latias or the girl she'd been imitating during Heroes that kissed him at the end...
I know next to nothing about the game and nothing about the anime and I find this comic to be absolutely hilarious. Actually, it makes me glad I don't know the source material.
I consider it clever, along the same lines of that pic of Ryu playing piano. It's taking something from the game and extending it into a possible, yet impossible scenario.

I think its just supposed to make fun of Pokemon in general.... Overall outside of the fandom people recognize the name Ash over Red. Besides I know many kids who named there game character as Ash growing up. Its a just parody that people outside of the fandom can enjoy as well.
