This is also to prevent MHY from tracking the picture and slapping them with EULA. It's far easier to track a 100% md3 hash copy than a similar image with different hash because of that superimposed watermark.
That being said, third party edit and third party watermark (on 'official image') is a grey zone bordering rejection on approval condition.
