The original design of Sonic the Hedgehog made for the 2020 feature film that was met with such an overwhelmingly negative public reception that it prompted the studio to delay the film so that it could be re-edited with a newer design by artist Tyson Hesse. Particular attention has been called to the design's human-like teeth.
The name "Ugly Sonic" was given in the 2022 Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers film, where the design was made into an actual character voiced by comedian Tim Robinson.
