Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There (1871) is a continuation in which Alice goes through the titular looking glass and enters a world that works like a chess board. Once again, Alice finds various peculiar and anthropomorphic creatures and has to deal with their eccentricities.
Between the original story arriving in Japan just as the country was opening up in the late 1800s and the extremely popular Disney adaptation, the story has remained as a permanent part of Japanese literature and fashion.
