The stereotypical IV stand generally has a distinctive pair of curlicued hooks at the top, and is usually wheeled so that the patient can bring it along when moving about. Some are height-adjustable for use when sitting or standing. They can also be built into/attached to hospital beds, gurneys, or wheelchairs.
