Set in an alternate future, the game takes place on Nox, a beastfolk-inhabited alien moon rapidly industrialized by two rival Earth blocs: the socialist Alliance and the capitalist Entente (paralleling the Cold War). After the Alliance collapses under the strain of the space race, Earth falls into chaos and Nox's fragile modernity begins to decay.¶

The player is a young veteran, sent to Nox to recover lost Alliance EGO research; mysterious powers native to the planet.
