boat
A relatively small, open watercraft. Boats come in a large variety of types and sizes, but unlike ships they are usually small, holding only a few people rather than a large crew, and usually used on rivers, lakes, and coastal areas rather than the open sea.
For very large seagoing vessels, use ship or submarine instead. For other types of vessels, see watercraft.
