This page lists generic, recurring tasks that may be of note for current and aspiring tag gardeners. Much of this list is adapted from the old Shinjidude's Tasks to do thread, but put into wiki format to make it easier to organize and expand.
Searches that require a Gold+ account are marked with an asterisk * and put towards the bottom of a section.
Work in progress: feel free to add entries, refine existing searches, add variants to searches for Gold- users where possible, and so on. Help is appreciated!
Missing identification
Pertaining to missing basic identification, meaning artist / copyright / character tags, as well as source.

Posts from Pixiv that don't have any artist tag, but also are not marked as a dead source, so are likely recoverable.

Candidates for filing a tagme request. Use some common sense of course, a no_humans object_focus post will likely struggle to reach 10, let alone 20 gentags.

Missing character tags. Replace the Blue Archive example with whatever copyright you're familiar enough with.

Application of translation request and translated simultaneously. Probably needs the request tag removed.

Application of commentary and commentary request simultaneously. Probably needs the commentary tag removed.

Application of commentary metatags without any associated commentary entry. Either needs the commentary added or the tag removed.

Active posts from pixiv for which commentary and commentary tags could be added.
- Gold+ users can do this search for other sites that always have commentary required as part of the posting system, e.g. source:*deviantart* -bad_id -has:commentary.

Undertaggings
Pertaining to missing tags where they can be applied.

Likely missing an outdoors tag.

Missing the specific tags for crossdressing and genderswaps.

- Take a close look at the image to make sure there isn't a hidden animal.
completely_nude upper_body
Violating the completely nude guidelines:
If you can't see their crotch or lower, use nude instead.
bikini_top_only upper_body | bikini_top_only portrait | bikini_top_only cropped_torso
Violating the bikini top only guidelines:
Don't use when you can't see the character's lower body, or you can't tell whether they're wearing bikini bottoms or not.
partially_submerged ai:wading
Partially submerged is frequently confused with wading.
looking_at_viewer closed_eyes
Mistagged looking at viewer, probably replace with facing viewer.
- Gold+ users: add solo for more accurate results.
scenery (cowboy_shot or is:nsfw)
Possibly not scenery.
back -from_behind
Likely missing from behind.
status:deleted child:any parent:any
Potentially could use a hierarchy flattening.
duplicate parent:none child:any
Duplicates should have the superior quality version as their parent. If it's superior quality than the original, then it's not a duplicate and the tag should be removed.

Mistagged solo or improper character counters.

Bad application of heterochromia.
