The IMI Galil is a family of military firearms that first entered service in 1972, designed by Yisrael Galili and Yakov Lior in the late 1960s. Recognizable by its flip-up aperture sights on the dust cover, vertical charging handle, rectangular one-piece handguard, skeletonized metal folded stock and a gas block with straighter profile. Based on the Rk62 and similarly utilizing an AK-style gas piston system, it has been developed into several variants, such as:

• Galil AR - the original 5.56mm assault rifle with slightly-curved slimmer rectangular handguard. (post #1293721)
