In Tolkien's Legendarium, Legolas is an Elven prince, the son of King Thranduil of the Woodland Realm. He is one of the protagonists of The Lord of the Rings and joins the Fellowship of the Ring as an archer. He forms a lifelong friendship with the dwarf Gimli despite the animosity between their two races.
