taqiyah
Taqiyah, or also known as a kufi, is a type of brimless, rounded skullcap worn by Muslim men. It is widely recognized as religious and cultural symbol of Muslims associated with humility. The practical purpose of wearing one is to keep one's hair away from the forehead so it will not obstruct the forehead while prostrating during salah (prayer), though not mandatory.
Many taqiyahs are traditionally white or plain-colored and made from tight-fitting knit material. While some regional variants may come in slightly rigid material, multicolored, and patterned.
Not to be confused with songkok which has rectangular profile or the Turkish fez hat.
