transformers (marvel)
The official comic series produced by Marvel during Generation 1 of the Transformers franchise. While it ran alongside the cartoon series, it was a separate story.
The comic ran monthly from 1984 to mid-1991 before its cancellation, for 80 issues. In the UK, the comic ran weekly for 332 issues, with additional UK-original stories and added comic stories from other Hasbro franchises. The first 55 US issues were written by Bob Budiansky, while the last 25 issues and additional UK stories were written by Simon Furman.
The comic briefly resumed as Transformers: Generation 2 for a short 12-issue run between 1993 and 1994 written by Furman.
The Marvel series is notable for having several differences in characterization between it and the cartoon series, as well as a focus on several later characters who appeared in the toyline after the cartoon had stopped production in 1987.
