Though I really shouldn't talk, what with my drinking as much as 5 (12 oz.) cups a day.

When I was an avid coffee drinker, every morning I would drink 12 cups of coffee (same size cup as you), the cook got angry at me drinking more coffee than they usually supplied. Every sunday I'd drink 15 cups because less people stayed over.

Considering Japan's portions, wouldn't what they consider "huge" probably be smaller than in most other countries?

Those "giant coffee mugs" are suspiciously identical to my "regular coffee mug".

I don't know. If that cup of cream next to the coffee is as big as I think it is (maybe enough to hold 8 oz.), then those coffee cups are absolutely massive.
