But even if lifespans were shorter than expected, the remains can just be exposed to sandstar again.

However, if an animal or its remains are re-Friended, it still loses all its memories. Kind of makes maintaining relationships difficult. Kaban was a rare and singular exception, as she is a human Friend.

Indeed... I'd also wager that Racoon simultaneously loosing and then immediately regaining her form as a Friend helped with that. Love doesn't hurt either ;)
