He must have really good timing to be able to catch her with the first lock, and it makes you wonder how the second one works.

Not that she could have known. But my own pride wouldn't even have me bother to bend down to pick up the key. I would have just ripped off the strap and went on my way. Even if it's a school swimsuit. I would just tell the teacher some asshole fellow student tried to lock me to the side railing.

I'm tempted to put this with 'mean but hilarious' and 'clever' but it's just a little off from them.

The second is a floor chained steel cable tie (the sturdy version of a plastic zip tie), I kind of see how that works. The bicycle lock is just too unreal to work even on fiction. Still hilarious, so it got the work done.

The problem is one of logic; if you've got your hand through a hole in something, you aren't going to bend your elbow (thus pulling the tie closed), you're just going to pull your hand straight back.

To me it looks like instead of pulling her hand she choose to raise her arm in order to inspect the key nor whatever she got around her wrist, right after the stacked wood forming a box disassembled, thus locking herself. It's kind of logical, but just like the first lock it involves a truly perfect timing and circumstances you only see on Saw movies.

Saw movies would be a lot more enjoyable if they were about women trying to get out of embarrassing situations.

Maybe the key could open the second lock?

It's the cookie jar trap. You squeeze your hand to fit it through the opening and open it to grab what's inside. With something in your hand, it's wider than the loop and it catches and starts to pull tight. Surprise causes you to jerk your hand back, cinching the snare tight.

Technically, that's just a simple noose trap, not the cookie jar trap.
