I went into DitF late and knew beforehand the comments of 'Ichigo is worst girl', but to be honest I got to Ep 14 and I couldn't understand the hate at all.
I've had debates with friends regarding it and it does seem to boil down to two things:
1) People like Zero Two (design/ character or both)
2) People forgetting that she is not privy to the information that we, the viewers, have. She is a character acting upon information presented to her, and I think that she acts in a way that a child probably would in the circumstances presented.

In my opinion she's not bad and I don't mind her character.

As far as I can tell, there's going to be people who have an irrational hatred of any character that is significant enough to the plot to warrant anyone noticing them. Either they do too much to advance the plot, or they aren't doing enough (sometimes both), they're too strong or too weak (sometimes both), they're too uninformed and make poor decisions from the audience's omnipotent position, or they are Mary Sue characters (sometimes both).

Sometimes people just hate particular personality types and will come up with whatever rationales they can come up with to justify it, making sometimes insane excuses for why characters are the "worst hero" or "worst girl" EVAR, even if it's just because they remind them of someone they know in real life and it has nothing to do with the character in question.

I don't understand the unanimous hate for Ichigo though, since my impression of her is and has always been "jealous childhood friend archetype", which just means she's just a "meh" character you've already seen a thousand times, nothing objectively "better" or "worse" than her contemporaries.

I get there will always be a hater for everything, but when there's such a flooding horde of haters who seems to be hating out of gut impulses rather than trying to see through the in-universe logic, it just seems like people enjoy hating for hating's sake rather than hating because they have a reason to.

Pretty much, yeah.

Some animes/games/whatever seem to attract the sort of person that loves hating people more than others, but it's always there.

I mean, just a few hours previous to seeing this, I remember seeing discussions about how the English-language KanColle wiki had to shut down the comments page for Intrepid because she was getting so much hate just for being drawn by Shibafu, as well as Gambier Bay just for existing when "other carriers that deserve it more" "should have gotten priority".

I don't even watch this show, but the osananajimi characters are typically one of the tropes I like more than most, so I'd probably like Ichigo just off the bat. The only trope I really can't stand are the hyperactive brocon imouto types.

I think this happening after the episode that delved into zero-two and MC's backstory ended up painting in her a bad light.

The whole show is about intimate relationships and how necessary they are for mutual survival but how their entire society is set up in a way that prevents this from developing, effectively encouraging damaging behavior.

I mean you have the situation stacked so heavily against her to me its meant to be a case where her initially enraging actions end up sparking guilt later on as more is understood and everyone undergoes character development.

The person I really feel sorry for is Ichigo's VA; I heard it's her first acting gig and it's going like this. I'd be surprised if she still continues after this series ends.

Hate the character, not the actor.

Unless it's Adam Sandler. He's so easy to love to hate.

The show isn't even over yet, there's still time for the hate to die down/for her to be redeemed.

Shouldn't this be a good thing for the voice actress? The fact many people are going so overboard with their emotions means the VA was very successful, surely doing her part in giving life to the character. Love or hate, it doesn't matter. Of course she won't get adoring fans this way, but the industry would remember her success, giving her other major roles, and one of them would be eventually loved by fans. It would be far worse if her first role left nobody with any impression.

Hoping she won't get type-casted because of the strong impression.

Not.....actually, considering modern method of casting very, very often puts the seiyuu's personal marketability over their actual chemistry with the character(see how many time Kaji, Matsuoka, Hayami, Miyano, Sawashiro, etc are casted for roles that clearly are far under the pay grade fitting of their skill level), a newbie with a big "unmarketable" role, especially when overshadowed by a more popular character by a more popular seiyuu(Zero Two's Tomatsu Haruka), can be easily eclipsed and never ever getting a chance to resurface, regardless of skills.

Anime is an unfair industry to a lot of people.

I say that for her being a newbie and being put in such a high profile production and being exposed to such venom. Experienced VAs have grown able to endure it but for such a new person to be exposed to this, this may very well break them.

What Azurelorochi said also has some merit (perhaps making this a nasty 1-2 punch)

Despite all of the hardships she faced, it's a good thing that IchiKana didn't give up, and her hard work paid off, as she'll gonna voice the first female protagonist of a Gundam TV series. It's a milestone, a happy ending and a happy beginning of a new chapter of her career. Congrats, Kana Ichinose.
