In any case, the Japanese seems to have inherited the inaccuracy from the Chinese, where they appeared to have translated the class leader's name from 'fantastique' instead of 'fantasque'. Presumably because 空想 sounds better than “任性” or 「気まぐれ」. (not to mention that both these words and "capricious" in general have negative overtones in both languages.)

Le Terrible was a ship of the class Le Fantasque, they had the same power of 100000hp at full power. They were Contre-torpilleurs, some destroyers built for hunting destroyers.
