A meme originated from the infamous Cai Xukun plays basketball while rapping video. The "Chicken you are beautiful（鸡你太美）" Engrish translation is based on the misheard lyric of Cai's rap song. Original line is "Because you are beautiful（只因你太美）"
The meme's popularity was further boosted after Cai was announced to be the NBA 2019 Chinese New Year Celebration Ambassador. Chinese NBA fans were furious about the choice, as they see Cai as nothing but a pop idol who barely knows anything about the sport, and Cai's extremely poor skills as demonstrated in the video didn't help either.
On the other hand, fans of Cai declared this to be one of the best things they'd ever seen in their lives, and actively engaged in flame wars regarding this matter.
