There have been cases but still... who is stupid enough to put the weapon over the counter? That's like holding the weapon from the barrel and saying to the victim "hey! here is your chance to shoot me before I use it"... Thinking about it maybe that's why they do it.

Most criminals are dumb. Lots of robberies have ended with the crook dropping the gun or being disarmed by trying to poke or hit their victim with it. Most dont think of this stuff when carrying out a robbery.
