Pompeii is not related to Reunion. She's the Queen of Slugs of Siesta's Volcano. Also most of the enemies we faced during the event are Cronin's mercenaries.

I don't think we've gotten any particular lore reason for it. The only thing I can think of is that the group he's part of (Azazel) has done some shady stuff with his body, as it's noted that the medics of Rhodes Island don't know how Azazel Clinic has stabilized his Oripathy, but that's pure speculation.

Are the assimilation rates listed on the wiki basically how much of X’s body mass has been converted into originium? Because if that’s the case then curing the infected isn’t really a case of just purging them of all originium, since some cases (like Amiya or Ifrit) have significant assimilation rates.

Well at this stage canonically there is no cure, only treatment, which mainly seems to involve blue rings

I should have elaborated by saying that originium assimilation is complicating efforts to cure oripathy. Theoretically, if there was a way to draw out the originium in the body it would result in large cavities forming and serious internal bleeding. This would probably be the case for individuals with high assimilation rates like Amiya and Ifrit (both about 19%), but might be safe for others like Cuora (5% assimilation rate).

The Oripathy hosts on several parts on the body unlike cancer that starts on one part of the body, you could purge it but is already hosting on the whole body

Well when you pull Hellagur he mentions ''(introduction)...but be advised, I have no medical skills '' so the medics can throw supplies to him all they want but he doesn't know how to apply them hence he can't be healed.
