How is Lauda related to Guel? They both have different names. Is it blood relation, or adoption? Or is it that Japanese thing of just calling someone you admire your brother? But Lauda refers to their father as father doesn't he? I'm So confused.

Given that the two are in the same year, he's probably only slightly younger and most likely an illegitimate child. It's entirely possible he wasn't allowed to use his father's surname growing up
