If played well enough, the Hunter provides you the objectively best DPS in the game. Strong, reliable, with an amazing Needle art and with a great crest slot distribution, the Hunter is my favorite crest in Silksong.
Everyone saying its pogo is bad need to learn how to play videogames!

Nah, best DPS indisputably belongs to Wanderer. The nail arts kinda suck for anything other than Architect's, spamming normal attacks is always superior, and Wanderer is the best for this with no delay between attacks and chance for triple damage crits.

Wanderer's DPS is the best in optimal scenarios, IE, the enemy is not moving in front of you. Enemies in Silksong are very mobile, which makes chasing them down put you into risk of facetanking their bodies, which hurts you a lot. It also doesn't help that Wanderer is very stubby, which makes that happen much more likely.
Nail arts are underestimated, also. If the enemy is away from you, your normal attacks won't hit anyway, so just charge a nail art to cash in 4x damage swings when you DO get close!

If the enemy is away from you, use the clawline. That's what it's for. If the Wanderer range is too short than use the Longclaw tool, it's not like there's a whole lot else worth using. It's very easy to stay on top of enemies with the Wanderer crest and do way more damage than the Hunter's crest would have done in the same amount of time.
DPS means Damage Per Second. If your playstyle is "wait until I can hit the enemy 1 time then run away" then your DPS is terrible. You can't argue that a certain crest's DPS is the best if you're playing in the least optimal way possible. If you're relying on charge attacks you might as well use the Architect's crest, it has the strongest charge attack of any crest.
I'm not arguing it's the best, I'm saying it's my favorite. Maybe I should've worded it differently, "strongest rotation" instead of DPS. Wanderer is really powerful in that regard, that's true.
It's unfortunate that Wanderer needs Longclaw and only has one red tool slot, one of the best things Hornet can use in battle. There's so many other good tools to use that wouldn't synergize well with it. I suppose it's a matter of playstyle.
EDIT: Actually, I DID say it was the best in my first post, didn't I? Bite my own tongue! I take it back, then; the strength of the Hunter is in how balanced it is, regardless, and my point still stands that its balance makes it powerful.
