He has several names, secret identities, and clones throughout the Gundam series. He is usually depicted with some sort of eyewear or headwear (usually sunglasses or his trademark helmet), concealing his eyes.
His birth name is Casval Rem Deikun and he has blue eyes. He stole the identity of the real Char Aznable (who is mostly identical to him except his brown eyes) to avoid being killed by Kycilia Zabi as a part of her plan to purge the Deikun family, and as such he chose to conceal his eyes to hide his real identity. He is the actual brother of Sayla Mass/Artesia Som Deikun and the true heir to Zeon.
Char's name was inspired by the real life Franco-Armenian singer and actor Charles Aznavour.
